I own a grey which I bought 14 days back. I dont know its exact age.
I guess he will be around 1 year.He growls a lot and doesnt let anybody
to come closer. He doesnt come out of cage also. But the situation has
improved a lot. Now he doesnt growl as much as he did at first and also
takes food from my hand but still doesnt come out of cage.Yesterday he
allowed me to touch his beak for a while. And even he enjoyed my
touch. He closed his eyed when I touched his beak. But after a while he
tried to bite me---- an indication to leave him alone.I want to know
What is the proper way to start taming? When will be the proper time to
bring it out of the cage and how because it bites a lot.If I let the
cage door open and keep the seed bowl outside---I think he will come
outside by his own but how will I keep him back in his cage again? His
beak is too strong and bites are too tough to tolerate.

Yes that a good Idea. But he only allows me to rub my fore finnger with
his beak.Nothing else.Even if I try to touch his chest or forehead he
starts to growl and tries to bite.
And also I cant take her out of the cage.

If you let him finish biting, he will stop. African Greys are known not to
like blood. Just kidding, and good luck with him!

Do not be afraid of his biting .. he is testing you and wants to see if you
are afraid of him. It is normal for the bird to want to "gnaw" on your
finger ... do not jerk away ... just say "no". He will learn. Also do not be
afraid to push your finger into his chest and say "up".. he will get on your
finger. Do not jerk away and show fear. It will not take long. Try rubbing
the back of his neck and the top of his head ... but do not go from behind
with your hand .. he will be scared. Go from in front and do not jerk away
in fear.

A lot of this is a bluff and he will continue to bite if you continue to
jerk away and show fear.

Now my grey moves feely in my room and when he gets bored or feels
sleepy he goes back into his cage.I think sometime later I'll start to
teach him step up and step down.Because still now he is afraid of
me.While he is out of his cage and if I go closer to him he starts to
growl. But when he is inside the cage I can touch his beak. And when he
eats from my palm I can rub my fore finger with his neck but only when
he eats from my palm.Otherwise he doesnt allow me to touch his neck.So
I think I'll give him some more time---Am I right???Please keep sending

How frequent I will trim my grey's feather?Do the greys prefer to be
seated on higher than us---because my grey comes out of the cage by his
own if I keep the cage door open. And I always keep the windows close
when he is out of the cage.If I do so(to keep the windows closed)---is
it required to trim his feather??He is still afraid of me.And doesnt
allow me to come closer when he is out of his cage.He starts to growl.

I never trim feathers. If you can be sure they cannot escape, there is no need. The only door and window I open is into the aviary.

What is the difference between a chicken and a baby?
A chicken is the result of a sitting hen while the baby is the result of a standing cock.

Sometimes when I approach my grey with some traets istead of looking at
the treat he is more interested in my long nails and tries to chew my
nails.Sometimes he bites hard wheras sometimes he just chews my
nails. Is it this sign to communicate with me?Will I let him to do
this? Will I let him to bite my fingers?I dont know whether it is birds
nature/way to communicate.

Hi the first thing you do is win his trust this can take a long time do not
put your self in a position to get bit and do not shout at him a low calm
voice is better also do not use your finger for him to step up on make a
fist if he bits it wont be as bad from parrotman
